Call for applications: Academic Editors for the Uganda Journal of Nursing and Midwifery

The Uganda Journal of Nursing and Midwifery (UJNM) is recruiting Academic Editors. As
an open-access, peer-reviewed journal, UJNM publishes research on nursing and midwifery,
including training, education, regulation, and practice. Hosted by the Uganda Nurses and
Midwives Council, the journal provides a platform for advancing evidence-based practice and
decision-making in Uganda.
UJNM seeks dedicated individuals from academia, clinical practice, community and global
health, public health, research, informatics, artificial intelligence, biomedical sciences, health
policy, and leadership to serve a three-year term, renewable based on performance.

The Journal welcomes applications from individuals of all nationalities and
backgrounds, fostering a diverse and inclusive community.

Scope of the journal

The journal will publish;

  • Research articles: reports of original primary research, including quantitative and
    qualitative studies, systematic reviews, and other work.
  • Commentaries: reports of opinions or explanations about an event or situation or
    a newly published article.
  • Quality improvement projects: reports on approaches used to improve; in patient
    outcomes, system performance, and professional development.

Duties of the Academic Editors

The Academic Editors should;

  • Agree to handle one to two new manuscripts assignment per month
  • Respond to manuscript invitations (Accept or decline within two days)
  • Assess whether the manuscript is suitable for peer review within four days of
    agreeing to the invitation
  • Secure at least two reviewers on manuscripts that are suitable for review
  • Submit a decision within four days of receipt of the complete reviews
  • Adhere to editorial and publishing policies.

Applicants will be assessed against either of the following criteria;

EITHER

  • Active researchers (Should have publication of one or more articles within the
    past three years of application)
  • A strong publication record of 10 or more peer reviewed articles
  • Senior, corresponding, or first authorship publication
  • Reliable internet access to conduct editorial responsibilities in a timely manner

OR

  • Evidence of working in active patient care,
  • Evidence of implementation of a quality improvement project in patient care.
  • Evidence of publishing peer-reviewed articles
  • Reliable internet access to conduct editorial responsibilities in a timely manner

To apply, submit a cover letter detailing how you meet the editorship criteria, and a
comprehensive CV, including your publications. Address applications to the Chief Editor,
Uganda Journal of Nursing and Midwifery, and send them to chief.editor@unmc.ug
by February 28, 2025.
