GUIDANCE ON LICENSES ISSUED BY UGANDA NURSES & MIDWIVES COUNCIL
Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC) would like to inform the public that there are two types of licenses in circulation, which are all issued by UNMC, i.e. a paper license and a card license.
The card license is an innovation to ensure that the information shared through the online system is reflected on the license and this includes; 1. Passport photo of the Nurse/Midwife 2. Most recently obtained Nursing/ Midwifery qualification and cadre of the holder. 3. A QR code embedded on the card that contains encrypted information that, once scanned, will initiate the verification process to confirm authenticity.
We also wish to inform you that the transition from paper license to card license is being done in a phased manner.
Currently, there are nurses and midwives who have card licenses that were issued during the first phase and effective 1st May 2025, all nurses and midwives registering or renewing will only receive card license.
We call upon employers of nurses and midwives both in the public and private sector to consider both paper and card licenses until we fully phase out paper licenses.
