Nurses and Midwives and the Public, it is of great honor. I was appointed to serve our country as Registrar of Uganda Nurses’ and Midwives Council (UNMC) with effect from 10th November 2021.
Uganda Nurses and Midwives Act (1996 established UNMC) as a professional regulatory and supervisory body to ensure the provision of quality nursing and midwifery services to the country. The Registrar of UNMC is the Legal Custodian of the registers and rolls of all Nurses and midwives in Uganda and of the seal of the Council. The Registrar is supported by a very dedicated team of staff at the Secretariat in the smooth running of day-to-day activities and management of the Council and guided by the Governing Council.
I welcome you to this website that is our information sharing platform for all Nurses, midwives and the Public. The website provides details of the services provided at the UNMC headquarters in Kampala and how these can be accessed. Over time, we will update the site to keep licensed practitioners abreast of changes in nursing and midwifery practice in Uganda and globally. Check out on the latest updates, news from the Council and opportunities like our Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programs. For Employers and the Public, this website provides information about which professionals have current practice licenses and will soon provide the details of licensed General Nursing, Domiciliary and Midwifery Clinics across the country. Please note that the certificate of enrollment or registration only confirms the person met the professional requirements for that cadre when they were admitted and does not give them a license to practice beyond the first 3 years. Therefore, nurses and midwives should routinely renew their practice licenses so that they are not embarrassed by their name not appearing on the website accessed by the unique license number given to each Nurse or Midwife.
